Dear Plant-a-Row Donors, Volunteers and Supporters:
177 Families served!! What an accomplishment. And it would have never happened without You!
On behalf of Fauquier Community Action, I want to thank you all for the terrific efforts made on behalf of the families signed up to receive food from the Rappahannock Food Pantry. This past weekend was a wonderful example of people helping people in their own community. We had over 26 Volunteers on Saturday alone, lead by the generous employees of the Rappahannock Bank, as we created an assembly line to fill boxes that would eventually feed 497 people.
Volunteers included groups of teenage girls from Fauquier and Rappahannock Counties. They really pitched in and had a blast. They just oozed energy and gave the rest of us a real boost. We had the boxes organized and filled in no time.
Turkeys ready to be distributed
Monday we started passing out the filled boxes and turkeys at 10:00 am, averaging 4 families every 15 minutes. We did that all day Monday and again on Tuesday. It was actually a “drive-thru” in that the recipients didn’t even have to get out of their cars. Once again, the quantity and quality of the volunteers was and always is superb. There were some of my fantastic regulars and lots of new faces who all want to come back again. The most important thing is we had fun doing it.
Weaving in and out of the controlled chaos of those three remarkable days was Plant a Row’s fearless leader, Hal Hunter. Whenever I ever need anything, all I have to do is ask and Hal always comes through. During those days, we also continued to receive donated items from many local churches and individuals.
Although we won’t be doing the same complete dinner for the Christmas holiday, it is my idea that we should have at least a “stocking” for all the children 12 and under that come to the food bank. I will have a complete list by the end of this week of the children and the items to go into each one.
