Pantry Update – Week 1
The Food Pantry got off to a terrific start last week! The Fauquier Community Action Committee (FCAC) stocked core canned and packaged foods and frozen meat. Some of these items were USDA food and some were donations from supermarkets. FCAC also delivered breads, bakery items, and an amazing selection of deli foods, such as rotisserie chickens and salads.
Our Plant a Row gardeners donated 24 lbs. of lettuce (19 lbs. of which came from Farm-to-Table), 3 lbs. of Swiss chard, 2 lbs. of herbs, 2 lbs. of sugar snap peas, 2 lbs. of kale, 1 lb. of radishes, 1 lb. of spring onions, 1 lb. of spinach, 1 lb. of beet greens, 1 lb. of potatoes, 0.2 lb. of broccoli, and 5 dozen eggs. Plant a Row volunteers also donated 12 half gallons of milk, 2 qts. of chocolate milk, 6 lbs. of canned goods, and 120 lbs. of dog food.
The Food Pantry recipients were happy with all the food, but particularly appreciative to take home fresh produce, eggs and milk.
We had a great showing of Food Pantry volunteers this first week, as well. Mimi Forbes, the Food Pantry manager, and I will hold a Food Pantry volunteer orientation this Tuesday, June 9 from 4:00-4:30 for those who’d like to learn about Food Pantry volunteer responsibilities. If you’d like to work at the Food Pantry (and haven’t already let me know) please email me at plantarowrapp@aol.com.
We have a lot of empty egg cartons – stop by and pick them up if you have eggs to donate. And, if you have boxes suitable for packaging food, please bring them to the Food Pantry.
Thanks to all!
