Cooking for Crowds

Cooking for Crowds is a safe food handling program, sponsored by Plant a Row, Wednesday, May 13th from 1:00 to 4:00 at the County Extension Office in Washington.It’s time to begin preparing for spring and summer street festivals, community fairs, fund raising events and church functions where food is served to large groups of people. If you “feed a crowd” with your rescue squad, youth group, church group, fire department or other group then the “Feeding a Crowd Class: A Volunteers Guide to Safe Food Handling” is for you.

Members of your group will learn food safety standards, food thermometer and glove use, and ways to keep food safe and clean. Each group will receive a free food thermometer, hand washing poster, temperature booklet, local regulations on temporary events and other useful items. Best of all the class is FREE.

A certificate for completing the class in the name of the organization with the participants’ listed will be mailed at the conclusion of the class. Certificates are approved for use at inspected temporary events where food is served to large groups of people. The class is sponsored by the Virginia Department of Health and the Virginia Cooperative Extension.

The class will hold 25 people and is open to all who wish to take it.
